Instagram as Social Networking

Written by Paige on 12 March 2012.

So. I recently got a client inquiry. She found me on INSTAGRAM...!!!!!!

Who woulda thought that a photo app could bring me business? Not this girl <---

Having a strong online presence is so important in the wedding industry...doesn't matter if you're a photographer, a coordinator, or a florist. If you're not online, no one will take you seriously. If you are online but your presentation is crappy, you're doing your hard work a disservice. Okay. There's my one rant for the month.

Anyway, I was browsing a photographer's website the other day and and they listed all of their external links in the side panel (pinterest, facebook, twitter...and instagram). I clicked on their instagram link and it sent me to their gallery on Instagrid. I immediately fell in love. Why? Because I love photos and I love excellent presentation. And now I have one. It's super easy, so you should get one too.

Sauvie Island

Written by Paige on 12 March 2012.

A new friend recommended that I visit Sauvie Island..."they have beautiful trails, and a lighthouse"...SOLD. The weather wasn't great this weekend, but Michael and I still went exploring a bit. We didn't know where to find the lighthouse, so we didn't make it there on this trip, but NEXT time, we will see it.

I love that we live in this big city, but we can drive 15 minutes NE and be somewhere more scenic. It was mostly gray on Saturday, but the sun managed to peep out for a few shots. Happy Monday!

Flashback Friday | Nepal

Written by Paige on 09 March 2012.

I like blogs with weekly themed posts. Each time, I look forward to the next post. For example, "Wedding Wednesday" is a popular theme among wedding bloggers. I enjoy my twitter feed on Wednesday, because there's a plethora of good wedding photos to be viewed. I wanna join this party. So I thought it'd be fun (probably mostly for myself) to do a Flashback Friday post. I've only been shooting regularly for 2 years now but it's so fun for me to look back at the beginning.

The FIRST installment for this weekly post takes us to Nepal. I had the opportunity to go there two Novembers ago to work alongside a human rights organization which rescues 20,000 girls A YEAR (not a typo) from being sex-trafficked. While my trip was brief, I saw most of the country, ate some weird things, got deathly ill, and met some wonderful people. I was still rockin' the Nikon d90 for this trip....aaaand, still didn't quite understand how to shoot manually. Yep. I've definitely grown since then, but these images from Nepal are still some of my favorite to date. I've been wanting to print a few, actually.

I love a good adventure. Enjoy.

March Portrait & Goals

Written by Paige on 01 March 2012.

Ummm...it's March?! I don't even know what I did last month...so this should be fun. Let's see how I did with Feb's goals.

1. Finish, Bossypants - which is SO funny. If you haven't read it, you should. I'm half-way through and looooove it - I DIDN'T FINISH IT...BUUUUUT, I DID GET THROUGH ANOTHER BIG CHUNK OF IT ON THE AIRPLANE.

2. Write a treatment for a stylized shoot and make preparations (hopefully the shoot will take place in March) - FAIL. I DID NOT DO THIS AT ALL. I THOUGHT ABOUT IT, BUT THAT DOESN'T COUNT.

3. Be bold. This kind of goes along with goal #2 - find the random person (or couple) that I'm visualizing in my treatment and approach them about doing a photography shoot - ANOTHER FAIL. WHY DO I EVEN SET GOALS? DAMN.

4. Three blog posts per week - I DID THIS A LITTLE. I THINK THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF THE MONTH THIS WAS GOLDEN.

5. Start excercising (ehh - dreading this one) - ANOTHER DEFEAT. I'M SERIOUSLY GOING TO START THIS MONTH THOUGH. MAYBE EVEN TODAY?

So February was a wash. In my defense I posted my goals half-way through, so here's hoping March is more successful.

Okay. What do I want to accomplish in March?

1. EXERCISE! For real, Paige.

2. Set up my stylized shoot. Find a random person to shoot.

3. Network with other vendors. Go to them. Introduce myself. Network. Network. Network.

4. Distribute business cards to local businesses/vendors.

5. Keep shooting personal projects.

6. Celebrate a milestone. I'm turning the big 2-5 this month. Youth officially dies with year 24. Time to start making some moves...

Wish me luck :-)

Hot Beats

Written by Paige on 29 February 2012.

This past weekend I flew to Orlando to do some work for Adidas during the NBA All-Star festivities. It was an interesting weekend, to say the least. I saw some things, learned some things, met new people, ate a lot of pub burgers, drank a lot of coffee and beer, didn't drink enough water, relaxed in the hot tub, and took some pics of some famous people. Unfortunately, I can't share those photos, but I did pop some shots of the DJ who kept things goin' all weekend. Enjoy :-)

Cannon Beach, Oregon

Written by Paige on 22 February 2012.

Long weekends rock. I hope everyone got a 3-day weekend this past go 'round.

My weekend was amazing.

My sister-in-law and her husband came to visit us from L.A. They were our first official Portland guests, so I spent most of last week hanging things on the wall, hanging curtains, cleaning, buying cleaning products so I could clean. You know. Just so it looked like we've been here for more than three weeks. Anyway, the weekend was everything I wanted it to be: full of eating, drinking, laughing and exploring. Michael and I have been desparate to make it to the Oregon coast ever since we set foot on the West Coast, and thought this would be the perfect time to experience it. I've never been a beach where I had to wear my winter coat...it was kinda cool. I felt very Pacific Northwest. I guess I'm a natural. We hit up Cannon Beach so we could take some obligatory shots of the infamous Haystack Rock. It did not disappoint.

Sadly, the weekend had to end, and we had to say goodbye (miss you guys, Christal and Bobby). But we're already planning our trip to sunny CA, which is going to be LEGEND-wait for-DARY. Please watch HIMYM so you don't think I actually came up with that catchphrase.

Enjoy a few (or many) images from our beach trip.

One of our only family portraits...thanks Bobby!

Kansas and Wyoming

Written by Paige on 15 February 2012.

Yep. Still sorting through all our images from our cross country move (for any new readers, we just moved from South Carolina to Portland, Oregon a few weeks ago). I still can't believe we made that trip. I'll never forget those long days in the car. So many new things to see, good conversations with Michael, eating sandwiches out of a cooler for 5 days in a row. I would totally do it again. Anyway, I've enjoyed grading these images...I've done some different things in post that I normally don't do with clients' images, but I've enjoyed trying new things. The only way to learn, right?

These first four are in Kansas somewhere.

He's a crazy animal...

These next few are in Wyoming...

Got My Hike On

Written by Paige on 14 February 2012.

One of the [many] things I love about living in Portland so far is there's always a good trail nearby. There are literally multiple hiking trails within 1/2 mile from our apartment. Awesome.

This past weekend we took advantage of the beautiful weather and took the dog on a hike...this is the ONE time where his incessant pulling doesn't get him in trouble. Sure, pull even harder...pull me right to the top of the mountain!

Anyway, here a few shots I grabbed. Happy Tues--oh wait--Happy Valentine's Day. <--- too much cheese? I had to at least mention it
